Recognizing Convex Blobs

چکیده

Because of the discrete nature of the memory and logic of a digital computer, a digital com puter "sees" pictures in cellular form, each cell containing a number that represents the density of the viewed object at that cell. In particular, when the picture is binary, each cell holds a 1 or 0, depending on whether or not the viewed object is projected onto that cell. The convexity of cellular blobs-i.e., binary singly connected cellular figures-is discussed and defined in terms of the continuous blobs of which the cellular blobs are images. A theory of convex cellular blobs is sketched, and the use of the "minimum-perimeter polygon" in an algorithm for testing the convexity of cellular blobs is described.

A Novel Shape Feature Descriptor for the Classification of Polyps in HD Colonoscopy

This work proposes a new method analyzing the shape of connected components (blobs) from segmented images for the classification of colonic polyps. The segmentation algorithm is a novel variation of the fast level lines transform and the resultant blobs are ideal to model the pit pattern structure of the mucosa. The shape of the blobs is described by a mixture of new features (convex hull, skel...

Object Recognition for Video Retrieval

Recognition of objects in video can offer significant benefits to video retrieval including automatic annotation and content based queries based on the object characteristics. This paper describes our preliminary work toward recognizing objects in video sequences and gives a brief survey of the relevant research in the literature. We use the Kalman filter to obtain segmented blobs from the vide...

CHEF: Convex Hull of Elliptic Features for 3D Blob Detection

We present an efficient protocol for robust detection of 3D blobs from volumetric datasets. The approach has three steps. The first step of the process detects elliptic features by classifying the Hessian of the scale space representation of the volume data. These features are then grouped into 3D connected components, which are subsequently partitioned by computing a convex hull of each connec...

Automatic Visual Control of a Pedestrian Traffic Light

This paper presents an algorithm using scene analysis methods to detect, track and label moving objects in order to optimize the active time of a traffic light performing, on demand, car flow control at a pedestrian road crossing. The algorithm detects blobs moving on the scene, try to label them as pedestrians or vehicles and tracks them along the scene. Thc decision logic turns on the traffic...

Translating Images to Words for Recognizing Objects in Large Image and Video Collections

We present a new approach to the object recognition problem, motivated by the recent availability of large annotated image and video collections. This approach considers object recognition as the translation of visual elements to words, similar to the translation of text from one language to another. The visual elements represented in feature space are categorized into a finite set of blobs. Th...
